The end of 2017 is nearly upon us and we at VISION would like to thank you for your continued support. It has been yet another interesting year in our country and we hope the road ahead is a good one. Personally it has been an eventful year for the VISION team – we have had births, family bereavements, an engagement and a wedding. We are proud to say that we have been the same team for a number of years now and we hope to serve you well for many years to come!

We wish all our customers a great festive season and safe travels if you are going away. Take it easy and look after your eyes in the beautiful (but harsh!) African sun.

Frequently asked questions

1. How often do I need to come in for an eye examination or contact lens check?

Eye exams

VISION advises a yearly eye examination, not only to review your prescription, but also to examine the health of your eyes. This will include a photograph of your retina and a glaucoma screening where necessary. If needed, further examination can be done via an OCT. Yearly exams ensure eye disease is picked up at an early stage and allows for appropriate management or referral.

If you are wearing contact lenses it is important to check your corneal health yearly. Because contact lenses are a medical device, the Health Professional Council of South Africa (HPCSA) advises that you have a contact lens examination annually before purchasing contact lenses.

The HPCSA clinical guidelines:

"Contact lenses must not be handed over to patients without an ocular
health evaluation beyond a year after the last consultation."

2. Can you remove scratches on my spectacle lenses?

Unfortunately it is not possible to buff scratches on prescription or non-prescription lenses.

If you do buff the lens it can change the shape of the lens and induce a different prescription and/or distortion.

3. Can I make prescription sunglasses?

Yes, you can DEFINITELY make prescription sunglasses. Your frame choice is important here.

VISION advises to choose a frame that is not too curved or too large as this could compromise the optics - your individual prescription and measurements will ultimately dictate what will work and what won’t. Please enquire at VISION.

4. Are there any warrantees on my frame and spectacle lenses?

Frames: The supplier provides a minimum of a 1 year manufacturing warrantee on frames. A manufacturing warrantee is on manufacturing faults and where VISION is unsure this must be approved by the supplier. Normal wear and tear and breakages through force are not covered by warrantee.

Spectacle lens coatings: You receive a 2 year warrantee on peeling of an anti-reflection coating. A hard coating makes the lens more scratch resistant but not scratch proof - there are no warrantees for scratches on the lens.
